Best Summer Party Themes For a Hot Houston Day

Posted on Monday, June 30, 2014, by Patricia Reyna

Here in Houston, we know there's no better way to cool off on a hot summer day then to gather friends and family around to enjoy some warm food and cold drinks. Whether there's a specific cause for celebration, or you're just looking to host a good time, here are a few ways to give your party theme the perfect summer spin.

Lemonade Stand

Nothing says "school's out for summer" like a lemonade stand. Along with the classic refreshment, you can serve cupcakes, lemon bars, fruit, and homemade ice cream. Decorate with yellow color schemes or gingham, polka dots, or striped patterns. Paper sign decorations, pinwheels, and pennants are sure to add some extra charm, as are classic summer flowers like sunflowers and tulips.

All American

Whether it's Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, or any day in between, a red, white, and blue party never disappoints! Classic American desserts like apple pie, banana splits, blueberry cobbler, and s'mores are sure to please guests of all ages. As will hot dogs, corn on the cob, and French fries. Decorations come in one of three colors, and don't forget to throw up a few flags!

Is there anything better than a fiesta? From delicious food, to even better drinks, everyone is sure to be in a good mood at this party! Decorate with bold colors, piñata, sombreros, red chili pepper lights, and more. This theme brings with it some of the best menu options with chips, salsa, and guacamole appetizers and a main course that can include everything from tacos and fajitas to burritos and enchiladas. And don't forget the margarita machine!

One of the best things about the summer is barbeque, especially if you're in Texas. Here in Houston, we don't need a reason to throw some food on the grill, but it never hurts. Whether you want to do hot dogs, steaks, or burgers, guests will have plenty of food to choose from, as well as drinks with an assortment of beer, lemonade, and sweet tea.

When you can't make it to the beautiful beaches of Hawaii and don't want to drive all your friends out to Galveston, consider bringing a little beach to your backyard! Set out the lounge chairs and tiki torches, decorate with orchids and paper lamps, and hand every guest a lei. Pina coladas and strawberry daiquiris complete with a cocktail umbrella are sure to keep guests cool as they enjoy dishes like Hawaiian barbecue, fish, chicken kabobs, and plenty of pineapple and coconut.
